GTS’s mission is to transform waste management by empowering convenient recycling for individuals and businesses. Our core mission is to bridge recycling gaps by introducing groundbreaking solutions. We address crucial yet overlooked aspects of waste management through encouraging widespread community engagement. We envision a world where recycling is not merely a task, but is rewarding and impactful. Through innovation, we drive positive environmental change for a sustainable future.
The 2021 York Region Waste Management report reveals 28% rejection and 20% misclassification of blue box materials. We believe the traditional sorting method needs some major revisions. There are fully recyclable materials, such as aluminum that are affected by such complications. Certain materials like batteries still lack a convenient recycling system. Considering that distinct parties handle municipal waste collection and recycling, our solution creates a shortcut, saving millions for taxpayers
GTS presents an effortlessly integrated and rewarding recycling solution. By engaging households and businesses at the origin, we set our sights on achieving a remarkable 100% recycling rate for endlessly recyclable materials such as aluminum and batteries.
For Households:
Our innovation lies in creating a streamlined shortcut. Through the creative repurposing of existing cat litter buckets, we not only prevent additional strain on the environment but also uphold their functionality. These resilient and thoughtfully designed upcycled buckets find renewed purpose within our operations.
Allocated to households, these upcycled buckets become dedicated receptacles for all aluminum waste, including cans, food trays, and foil sheets. Our system involves direct collection from households, followed by seamless transportation to metal scrap yards, where recycling takes place. The pre-sorted nature of these items drastically reduces the need for intricate sorting processes associated with aluminum (a non-ferrous material), effectively bypassing elaborate methods like Eddy current and manual sorting facilities. In alignment with our pioneering approach, we not only redefine recycling but also contribute to environmental regeneration. For every collection of 20 buckets from households, we commit to planting a tree across Canada, effectively magnifying the positive impact of our initiative.
For Businesses:
Similar to our household approach, businesses also become integral contributors. Embracing our innovative recycling methodology, businesses partake in the same process, with an added distinction. Those businesses that actively engage in this new recycling paradigm will be duly honored with a coveted Green Certificate from GTS.
Green the Scrap operates with an unwavering commitment to closing the loop of sustainability. By ensuring that valuable resources seamlessly re-enter the production cycle, we are actively contributing to the development of a greener, more sustainable planet.
Our design focuses solely on upcycled buckets tailored for sorting aluminum and battery waste. The recycling rates for aluminum and batteries in Ontario and Canada remain comparatively lower than in other provinces and developed nations. Despite the burgeoning utilization of battery-operated devices in our daily lives, recycling batteries remains an inconvenient endeavor. Even when these materials are diligently diverted from landfills and directed to recycling bins, substantial energy and resources are expended solely for sorting purposes. Remarkably, these endlessly recyclable materials maintain their intrinsic value throughout their lifecycle.
Amidst our consumer-centric world, the paramount importance of efficient recycling, minimizing energy consumption, cannot be overstated—critical to preserving our planet for posterity. Green the Scrap stands as a resolute response to these multifaceted challenges, championing a sustainable future that encompasses all and leaves a legacy of stewardship for generations to come.
We provide free recycling materials to households and businesses and looking to set up or improve their aluminum can, containers and battery recycling facilities. These materials include can collection boxes as well as promotional materials such as pamphlets which communicate the benefits of recycling.

- Aluminum can be recycled, endlessly.
- It takes 95% less energy to make new aluminum packaging from recycled materials.
- Every aluminum wastes recycled reduces the carbon footprint of the next one made
- Making recycled aluminum only takes around 5% of the energy needed to make new aluminum — reducing carbon emissions and saving money for businesses and end consumers.
- Recycling aluminum reduces the amount ending up in the landfills by almost 55%.
- Aluminum is proving to be a solution to the fight against climate change, as it is increasingly used in the composition of certain levers for reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions (electric vehicles, batteries, charging stations, etc.)
- Battery recycling is valuable as it decreases the necessity for virgin material mining and allows reclaimed materials to be repurposed.
- Improper disposal of batteries, particularly lithium-based ones, in trash can lead to sparks, risking people and surrounding properties.
- Also inappropriate disposal of batteries like Nickel Cadmium rechargeable can harm the environment through contamination.
- Raising consumer awareness is crucial for altering behavior, promoting proper battery recycling, and preventing landfill accumulation.
